Armored Luxury Vehicles

The luxury segment of the armored vehicle industry presents an interesting challenge for manufacturers due to the relatively low volume and the unique design of vehicles. It is not often for buyers to purchase a large quantity of armored luxury vehicles due to the high cost of the base chassis.

Manufacturers also need to develop unique designs for each individual chassis to ensure proper fitment of armor plating and chassis reinforcement upgrades.

Armored Audi Q5

For 2009, Audi introduced the Q5, a new compact crossover SUV. International Armored Group is proud to be amongst the first in the industry to develop an armoring design for the Audi Q5, offering CEN B6 level protection in a luxurious package.

The Armored Audi Q5The Audi Q5 is equipped with a 3.2L V6 producing 266hp and 243 lb ft of torque. The engine is mounted to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with Audi’s “Tiptronic” manual shift feature. It is also equipped with the advanced “Quattro” all-wheel-drive system that has differentiated Audi from its competitors. The 5 door Audi Q5 also offers a high degree of practicality to complement its sporty nature with a seating capacity of 5 and ample storage space in the cargo area, despite its compact appearances.

Recently, IAG has developed a new armoring design for the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, Toyota Hilux, and Chevrolet Suburban to provide superior vehicle survivability. Using the same principles, the armored Audi Q5 is equipped with features such as full B6 level overlaps and single piece ballistic steel armoring on the sides, providing superior ballistic protection.

Armored Luxury VehiclesAdditionally, the floor is outfitted with armoring to provide blast protection from up to 2 DM-51 hand grenades. The newly designed rear bulkhead is also armored to the B6 level, featuring a high visibility rear window while maintaining a low profile appearance.

The challenge of developing an armoring design for new vehicles is always welcomed by IAG as we are always looking to expand our product range. One-off projects such as the Audi Q5 and the BMW X6 that we previously armored are prime examples of innovative designs developed by the IAG engineering team.
