Many new luxury vehicles from high end manufacturers such as Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi and Lexus feature state-of-the-art technology and materials.  Due to the sophisticated features of these vehicles, the armoring conversion process has become much more complex.  Armored vehicle manufacturers are required to adopt new and innovative techniques in order to properly install the armoring while retaining OEM appearances and features.

Armored Mercedes Benz S Class

International Armored Group (IAG) has recently completed armoring on the flagship S500 luxury sedan from Mercedes Benz armored to CEN B6 level of protection.  The armored Mercedes features full passenger cabin armoring with certified armoring materials, completely shielding the occupants from ballistic and blast threats.  Armored ballistic steel overlaps are installed at every door to prevent bullets from penetrating the passenger compartment from any impact angle.  In addition, the fuel tank is also armored to ensure that the vehicle is fully capable of escaping in the event of an attack.

Even though the Mercedes Benz is equipped with OEM advanced high performance suspension and brake systems, further modifications are necessary in order to support the additional weight of the B6 armoring.  Many of the armored vehicle manufacturers do not make any modifications to the suspension and brakes of the Mercedes because of the complexity of the systems.  International Armored Group is one of the few manufacturers able to modify and upgrade both the suspension and brakes of the S Class due to our extensive engineering knowhow.  The Mercedes suspension is reinforced while retaining the original OEM features of the system.  Upgraded braking system is also installed in order to match the original Mercedes stopping distances even with the additional weight of the armoring.  As a standard feature, run-flat tires are installed on the vehicle to allow for continuous driving and evasion of attackers even if the tires have been punctured.

One of the unique features of the IAG armored Mercedes Benz S Class is the underbody armored diffuser.  Designed and manufactured in-house, the armored diffuser is primarily designed to provide superior blast protection.  The underbody diffuser also significantly improves vehicle handling and cornering stability by increasing down force and reducing vehicle body roll.  In addition, the slotted design deflects water and sand while improving vehicle cooling.

A vehicle such as the Mercedes Benz S Class is equipped with a wide variety of luxury features and equipment.  The IAG armored S Class retains these functions and maintains the OEM Mercedes exterior and interior appearance.  The occupants will be able to fully enjoy all the features of the base vehicle with the knowledge that they are completely guarded by the integrated vehicle armoring.
