How Does It Work?

1. Cardholder inserts their special smartcard into BioSmart+ Terminal. This tells our FingerFoto™ camera module to "wake-up" and capture a virtual 3-dimensional image of the cardholder's two fingers (of either hand) and pass the image data to the smartcard.
2. The smartcard processes the image using its on-board engine with our proprietary algorithms and compresses the data into a 20 byte template, which is immediately encrypted and stored. The cardholder's two finger data is NOT kept in the Terminal and is NOT transmitted to any database or anywhere else --- the person's encrypted data is ONLY on the smartcard.
3. There is nothing to "hack" or copy, no memory in the Terminal, no communications lines to tap, no central database. If the card is lost or stolen it is totally useless to another person.
4. The cardholder can then go to a BioSmart+ Terminal anywhere in the world and insert their card. The BioSmart+ Terminal captures the two finger data and passes it onto the smartcard. The processor on the card is programmed to carry out the "compare function" and confirm that the new template is the same as the one stored on the smartcard.

If it is, the "open" command is given to the Terminal's door or gate controller. Meanwhile, on the smartcard, the two templates are combined (i.e., template up-dating) and the new template is immediately random re-encrypted on the smartcard

IN SUMMARY: There is no trace or track anywhere that can be compromised. The cardholder's template is never the same twice and in a different encrypted format between each verification.

Because there is no database of cardholders, there is zero need for using Identification Mode (1 versus X). Because the BioSmart+ Terminals are all "standalone" with no network or central database/data processing (i.e. zero infrastructure), the initial cost and overhead costs are far below any other biometric system --- hence our statement "The Highest Possible Security Level At The Lowest Cost".

Smart Cards
and a crypto smart card interface, which provide confidential storage for personal identity and assets and data to be processed off- or on-line. Smart card readers and Security Application Modules (SAMs) provided by Fortress U&T with state-of the-art crypto-chips support any ISO 7816 standard smart cards.

Cryptography
and a crypto smart card interface which assures that valuable personal and bio-data, stored in the smart card, cannot be copied, counterfeited, misused or fraudulently altered.

2-Finger Geometry Biometrics
which provide the unique link between a person and his smart card. The Digi-2 biometric camera developed, engineered and supplied by Biomet Partners, is manufactured with Omega Electronics SA (Swiss Swatch Group).

The Bio-Smart+ Evaluation Kit

The BioSmart+ Evaluation Kit (BSEK) let you evaluate and understand the basic functionality of confidentiality in personal identification.

The kit consists of a smart card reader with an RSA SAM (Application Module), an internal real-time clock/calendar and the Digi-2 biometric 3D Camera. It comes with three pre-issued SCOS+ RSA smart cards to demonstrate the merits of a RSA secured biometric.

The software supplied with the BioSmart+ Evaluation Kit is based on the BioSmart+ API (BSAPI). The BSEK software package also contains a User Interface demo program that enables operator configuration of the kit, simplified registration and user verification.
