eyevis video wall in a control room.
In general, control rooms are operated 24/7 and 365 days a year. In such areas critical data and information is controlled by several operators, working in different shifts. The data is visualized on video walls. Therefore the equipment used in these applications has to have an excellent image quality and should be extremely reliable. In order to achieve a reliable continuous operation a certain redundancy is required.
eyevis Video Wall
In a control room you will find very often a central medium to display the relevant data and information. This can be a video wall consisting of a matrix of DLP cubes or LCD monitors.
In order to achieve a high availability of the video wall, the systems must have high quality components with a high MTBF and some redundancy features, like automatic dual lamp system for the lamp based DLP cubes, redundant power supplies, several fans etc..
Also the use of UPS systems is indispensable in order to assure a high availability. In terms of a matrix of displays, if one display fails still the others are available and the broken one can be changed or repaired. But what happens if the graphic controller fails?
In general these video walls are connected to a graphics controller with DVI outputs connected to each display or cube. These controllers have multiple inputs like analog video, IP video, RGB, DVI or LAN. With a wall mangement software these sources can be freely arranged, placed, scaled on the video wall.
Control Room Visualization
Also it is possible that applications run directly on these controllers and are visualized on the video wall. Of course also these controllers can be built up redundantly with double or triple power supplies, fans, RAID systems and so on. But will this give enough redundancy in critical applications?
The leading German manufacturer of large screen systems for control rooms, eyevis is working since 15 years in this field and has gathered a lot of knowledge in plenty of projects worldwide. As one of the only manufacturers eyevis is able to build up complete redundant systems for high availability requirements.
That means that the video wall is being connected at two controllers at the same time. With the new eyecon wall management version 4.3 eyevis has also developed the eye teaming feature, which is an improved redundancy module for highly available systems with dual netpix connection for resilience purposes. This feature does the automatic synchronisation of manipulations on both netpix controllers.
With such a solution you can achieve a very high redundancy, as if one controller fails it is automatically switched to the second controller and the second one is synchronized with the first one. Of course to achieve a high availability it is also recommended to have a redundant network.
