Zenitel's Offshore TETRA Terminal

Zenitel's new Motorola TETRA terminal has been recognised as suitable for offshore applications in place of more dated solutions.

Zenitel, international market leader in integrated communication solutions for the professional market, recently demonstrated the Motorola Dimetra IP Compact TETRA system at its Oil and Gas Industry Seminar held in Stavanger, Norway. Held in June, Zenitel Wireless Norway ran the successful event which was attended by more than 25 potential customers, including companies from the International Oil and Gas Industry.

The seminar was also supported by the Motorola Europe organisation. There are many confirmed projects for TETRA systems in the Norwegian markets and Zenitel is planning to be part of this development.

Both the petrochemical industries as well as the oil platforms along the Norwegian coast are now taking interest in TETRA systems. The current analogue installations are getting old, and with the roll out of the TETRA Public Safety network in Norway, the interest for merging into digital technology is evident. The Zenitel Group was therefore promoted at the event with representatives attending from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Digital Offshore Technologies

The industry as a whole has been waiting for the new Motorola TETRA ATEX approved terminal which now will be available from September 2008. This new terminal goes well with Zenitel’s own newly acquired Motorola Dimetra IP Compact demo system, which was thoroughly demonstrated by Mr. Michel Frelink of Zenitel to the oil companies’ telecom engineers. Offering a resilient, robust and reliable network for seamless communication, the system also fits very well with our own repeater products and this compatibility was presented by Mr. Leif Ericsson during the seminar.

The first offshore project ever equipped with TETRA solutions from Zenitel, the Maersk Platform, was performed by our Danish organization, and an overview was professionally presented by Mr. Henrik Jacobsen.

Zenitel Wireless Norway is aiming to repeat the success of this seminar by arranging other similar events in the near future.
