Merlin Eco: Using the Mains Power Wiring to Switch Remote Devices
Merlin Eco uses the main power wiring to switch remote devices.
Xtra-Sense will be introducing its new range of improved Through the Mains Signalling solutions in September 2009, developed with new technology for optimised performance.
The Xtra-Sense Mains Signalling Link (MSL) product base delivers a user-friendly, mobile means of signalling through the mains of a building, making this technology ideal in security help-call applications.
The new range of through the mains signalling will incorporate improved technology and will include an extended choice of innovative solutions to meet varying security requirements. As the technology will form the equivalent of a virtual cable for security alarms, key examples of its implementation will include remote switching and help call.
Existing Xtra-Sense products MSL 15 and MSL 99 will be merged to a form new, strengthened system with increased performance and functionality - the Merlin Trio.
The Merlin Trio range will comprise product packages to suit a more complete suite of applications from the simple portable help-call up to the more complex nurse-call type operations. It will also be capable of use in the communication of alarm signals linking security detectors to alarm panels.
Xtra-Sense's brand new technology is incorporated into the delivery of a leading security signalling capability. The powerful Merlin 8 System creates virtual multi core cables in a building or complex. A simple eight channel transmitter and eight channel receiver creates a 16 core cable between two locations.
Designed to meet the requirements of BS EN 50131 Security Grade 3, the Merlin 8 transmitter takes in eight alarm detector outputs and uses the mains power wiring to deliver their alarm status to the remote receiver, where they can be interfaced into a security panel. Multiple transmitters can communicate with a single receiver, and multiple transmitter / receiver groups can operate in a single building.
With issues such as energy saving growing in importance, the new Merlin Eco forms an environmentally-friendly solution for the remote switching of mains-powered devices with no need for the installation of extra cables. The single channel in and a single channel out Merlin Eco creates a virtual cable to control the switching of both mains power and other devices, such as heaters, lighting and electric motors.
Linked into building management control systems, one or more transmitters can communicate with multiple receiver units throughout a building to turn equipment on and off automatically. In addition to the savings on time and effort presented by the negation of cables, the Merlin Eco helps steer your operations in a power-saving direction.
