MilsMessage - The new secure messaging client from mils electronic

MilsMessage is the latest addition to the family of mils electronic products for secure messaging.

It complements MilsMail (e-mail security for MS Outlook) and MilsFile (file encryption in the Windows Explorer) by providing a “dedicated e-mail client” for the exchange of encrypted messages in government networks.

MilsMessage turns every PC into a complete cipher station. It is fully compatible with MilsMail and uses the performance and security features of the MilsCard.

More than 20 years of experience in the field of computer based cipher machines and the latest trends in information technology and telecommunications have influenced the development of MilsMessage.

At first sight, MilsMessage appears as an up-to-date e-mail program:

• Popular Windows user interface,
• Messages in any language with any kind of attachments,
• User defined folder structures, and
• Sending / Receiving via any SMTP/POP3 based e-mail service.

However, it also incorporates the features of a high-end cipher machine:

• MilsMessage of course includes the unbreakable One Time Key encryption scheme.
• Messages in transit can also be protected by means of strong cryptographic stream- and block cipher algorithms.
• Messages stored in the folder structure (Sent Messages, Inbox, Drafts,...) of MilsMessage are also protected by cryptographic means, and their authenticity is perfectly maintained.
• A cryptographically protected message archives is supported for the long-time storage of messages apart from the cipher station.
• The hardware security module MilsCard provides encryption and access protection.

The primary transmission service used by MilsMessage is e-mail. Due to the built-in SMTP/POP3 protocol, e-mail services of various public or private networks can be used. Access to these services is done via the available telecommunication cannel.

As an alternative to e-mail, MilsMessage can store the encrypted message in a file instead of sending it by e-mail. This file can then be forwarded by any means of communication (PSTN or HF Radio terminal program) or even by a courier.

Of course, the message handling (e.g. Sent Messages,...) is still done by MilsMessage.
