Security Foiling take part in London to Brighton cycle challenge
Security Foiling employees will be swapping engine power for pedal power and cycling 54 miles from London to Brighton in aid of Mercy Ships, the international charity that provides free medical and humanitarian care to some of the world's poorest people.
Mark Filby, Operations Manager, and Mick Castleton, Technical Director, are just two of the employees of the document security solution provider who have signed up to take on the gruelling London to Brighton Cycle Challenge on the 16 September.
Mick Castleton, Technical Director, said: "Last year we chose to support Mercy Ships as we have strong business ties to Africa and we wanted to give something back. Mercy Ships is an amazing organisation doing some fantastic work and we hope that by taking on this challenge we will not only raise more funds for this good cause but also increase awareness of the charity."
Operations Manager, Mark Filby said: "Last year Security Foiling made a cash donation to the charity and a member of staff raised further funds through running two half marathons and a full marathon. This year we are dedicated to raising more funds for Mercy Ships."
The company also has a personal connection to the charity through one of its employees, Marcel Djoga whose father's sight was restored after receiving a cataract operation on the Africa Mercy when the ship visited Togo back in 2010.
Employee Marcel said: "The work that Mercy Ships does is truly remarkable. My father had lost his sight and had lost a lot of his independence. We were lucky enough to get an eye operation on board the Africa Mercy last time it was anchored of Togo. It's changed my father's life significantly and he's most grateful to be given back the gift of sight. I'm delighted to hear that the ship has returned to Togo for five months this year to again offer hope and healing to others who need it."
Judy Polkinhorn, Executive Director of Mercy Ships UK, said, "We are absolutely thrilled that Security Foiling employees are taking on this big challenge on our behalf. The work of Mercy Ships would not be possible without the support and generosity of volunteers and fundraisers; they are vital in ensuring Mercy Ships can continue to help and provide care to those less fortunate."
All of the employees at Security Foiling support the effort to raise funds for Mercy Ships. Most will be embarking on the 54 mile cycle challenge from London to Brighton and one member of staff will put on the running shoes and take part in two half marathons and one marathon totalling 52.4 miles.
