HESCO Bastion Concertainer
Protective Structures, Perimeter Security
Hesco Concertainer units are a prefabricated, multi-cellular system, made of galvanised steel Weldmesh and lined with geotextile. They have been widely and successfully used for force protection in conflicts from Bosnia to Afghanistan. Walls built from the units have been used around military camps, guard posts, hospitals, stores and key public buildings such as embassies and consulates. Based on this experience, Concertainer units are ideally suited for protecting sensitive civilian installations particularly at risk from terrorist attack.
Perimeter Security and Defence Walls
The US Department of Homeland Security identifies key facilities that must be secured against the threat of physical attack. Among these are production and processing installations where disruption could have "significant impact on public health and safety, public confidence, and the economy."
In addition, the Strategy identifies prominent commercial centres, office buildings, and sports stadiums, where protection is important to prevent fatalities and preserve public confidence.
Providing proper protection for these sensitive buildings is a key element in being "ready not afraid" that lies at the heart of Homeland Security. Concertainer units have provided this kind of protection in the harshest environments and under the most testing conditions of all - those of military combat.
The primary advantage of Concertainer units over other systems is their ability to utilise locally available fill material to rapidly construct defence walls and other structures with minimal manpower and resources. Units can be extended and joined to provide effective and economical structures tailored to the specific threat and level of protection required.
Force Protection with Protective Structures, Bunkers
Since Concertainer units can be filled with soil and organic material, they can support the growth of natural plants, maintaining the local ecological balance and providing a 'green' environment. This is in contrast to conventional concrete installations, which are unnatural, unattractive and environmentally unsound.
Additionally, their benign appearance does not affect the defensive qualities of the structures: instead, the plantings merely hide the units, enabling them to form a seamless part of the environment.
Structures built from Concertainer units have been subjected to testing with charges up to 20,000lbs. Correctly configured, a defensive structure will mitigate the effects of truck bomb attack. They have also been tested and proven against small arms fire and RPG, and are used extensively in the protection of personnel, vehicles, equipment and facilities in military, peacekeeping, humanitarian and civilian operations.
Typical Applications Include:
- Perimeter Security
- Vehicle Barriers
- Observation Points
- Explosives and Contraband Search Areas
- Highway Checkpoints
- Border Crossing Checkpoints
- Protecting Existing Structures
